The Abby at Lacock (Cotswolds Part II)

After our refreshing tea & talk with Ms. Margret, we headed over to see the Lacock Abby. The Abby was turned into a big house about 350 years after it was originally built in the 1200s.

It is a great old place, and it's fascinating to think about all the families & stories it has seen. And yes,  I did imagine I was a a lady visiting back in the 1700s.

I love canopy beds!

Think of all the girls who've done their hair in that mirror. I wonder what their stories are?

I'd love to use a typewriter someday...

Seriously the creepiest play room ever. Look at the rocking horse's face & the tiger rug!

So many old books!

A place for entertaining.

The tower safe. Needless to say, I loved this little room. I have a thing for towers.

Practicing being a lady.

A mysterious chest, I wonder what might be in it?

There were carvings all over this cavernous room, I can't imagine how long it took to complete.

What is your favorite part of this old house? Any ideas as to what might be in the mysterious chest? Would you like to live here?

  1. Would I like to live there? Is that even a question? :) The tower room or the library... or just put some books in the tower room. An occupant's diary lives in the mysterious chest, smothered by spare sheets and ragged bedding. It tells of the horrific murder that occured in the play room. :) And I'm only half joking; who lets their kids play with a tiger's head?

    1. Haha, yes Em, you can put some books in the tower.
Oooh, a murder . . . in the play room! Dah dah daaaah!!! Maybe the vicious looking rocking horse had a grudge against some child. Oh dear, we need help.

    2. "Help" is such a blanket term; I prefer to substitute it with "a book deal." :)

  2. The simplicity aspect of your domain reminds me of camping. :) Only just a bit nicer. Love the pics of the inside of Cloud 9. Thanks for sharing! Anna, maybe YOUR first book will be on scarf decor? Miss you all alot! Mrs. J
